Alberto Burri: “Materials, Methods, and Memory”
Alberto Burri: “Materials, Methods, and Memory” a symposium on the pioneering work of the Italian artist Albert Burri will take place on December 1st from 1:00pm – 6:00pm at Fordham University at Lincoln Center, 113 West 60th Street, McMahon, room 109. Concurrent with the Guggenheim Museum’s retrospective, “Alberto Burri: The Trauma of Painting” which commemorates the centenary of the artist’s birth, this symposium brings Guggenheim curators Emily Braun and Carol Stringari together with Burri scholars and friends from Italy to address the exhibition itself as well as Burri’s work in the context of postwar and contemporary art both in Italy and in the US. The symposium is sponsored by the Honors Center of Italian Universities at Sapienza University in Rome and by the Art History and Music Department of Fordham University.
